Maya Bay Closes for Good!
Thailand’s famous beach from the film “The Beach” with Leonardo DiCaprio closes permanently

Yes, it’s really happening! After the firsttemporary closure attempt, which the Thai government pushed forward in June, today comesconfirmation of Maya Bay’s permanent closure.

Maya Bay, made famous by the film with Leonardo DiCaprio, was drawingthousands of tourists every day. Depending on the time of day, it was even hard to land on the beach.
On top of that, the countlessspeedboats had damaged and eroded the beach, leading to today’s decision.
Thailand’s Department of National Parks decided toprotect the beach and the ecosystem, which were seriously at risk.

We were lucky enough to land on the beach during our trip to Thailand, in March 2017, and we’d chosen to arrive early in the morning specifically to avoid the tourist crowds.

We agree with the decision, hoping it will be properly regulated so everyone can enjoy this paradise again once it’s restored.
